YOZGAT BLUES HAS WON THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS AT 4TH MALATYA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Yozgat Blues received the great award of 4th Malatya International Film Festival, organized by Malatya Apricot Research-Development and Promotion Foundation with Governor’s Office of Malatya as the coordinator and Barya Academy Yakup Ozturk Cinema Club as the main sponsor, along with the supports of Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkish Republic, Malatya Municipality, Inonu University, T.C. Malatya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Firat Development Agency!

The award ceremony was held in the Kemal Sunal Auditorium of Malatya Convention and Cultural Center and hosted by Korhan Abay and Cigdem Tunc. A Haber television channel made the live broadcast of the ceremony. The ceremony started with the speech of Mr. Vasip Sahin, Governor of Malatya and the Honorary President of the Festival. Members of National and International Competitions’ Juries, Kemal Sunal’s wife Gul Sunal and his son Ali Sunal, the actors of Hababam Sinifi and the cinema lovers of Malatya attended the ceremony.

The Stage Belongs to Cinema
Mr. Vasip Sahin, Governor of Malatya and the Honorary President of the Festival, who said “Tonight, the stage belongs to cinema!” during his speech at the Opening Ceremony, also kept his promise at the Closing Ceremony and without making a speech, left the stage to the cinema personalities and presented his respect and the value he give to the cinema and the artists.

The Best Film, The Best Director and The Siyad Awards of the National Feature Film Competition of 4th Malatya International Film Festival went to Yozgat Blues! While director Mahmut Fazil Coskun indicated the importance of receiving this award for him, producer Halil Kardas has shown his gratitude through humor, saying that next time they will be shooting Malatya Blues.

Best Script Award went to Lusin Dink, the screenwriter and the director of Saroyan Land. Receiving her award from Jury Member and Author Canan Tan, Lusin Dink thanked for the award and added: “Saroyan Land has attended to many festivals and received its first award from the Golden Apricot Film Festival in Armenia and now it receives its second award, Crystal Apricot here. I hope one day Saroyan will be taught in all schools.”

While The Best Actress Award was received by Ipek Turktan Kaynak with her performance in the movie The Impeccables (Kusursuzlar), The Best Actor Award went to Serdar Orcin due to his performance in the movie The Long Way Home (Eve Donus Sarikamis 1915). Ipek Turkan Kaynak received her award from Jury Member and Actor Kenan Isik and thanked her family and her fellow crew members for entrusting the role to her. Receiving his award from the hands of Jury Member and Film Critic Sevin Okyay, Serdar Orcin mentioned the difficulties of shooting independent films, that most of the time film crews continues shooting penniless, and thanked to all his filmmaker friends and the organizers of the festival.

Another award of the National Feature Film Competition of 4th Malatya International Film Festival, Special Jury Award went to Hayk Kirakosyan, the Cinematographer of The Long Way Home (Eve Donus Sarikamis 1915).

Commemorating the great actor Kemal Sunal, this year, Malatya International Film Festival also gave Kemal Sunal Public Award. Selected through the votes of audience, The Long Way Home (Eve Donus Sarikamis 1915) won this award. While delivering the award to actor Serdar Orcin in behalf of the film crew, Ali Sunal said: “I want to deliver this meaningful award in the names of Nejat Uygur, who we lost recently and was admired by my father very much, and all the other masters of the cinema.” Serdar Orcin said: “I’m very happy for receiving an award, which is named after Kemal Sunal, from Ali Sunal, and I will deliver the award to film crew as soon as possible.”

Being an international film festival with its festival program and guests, the International Feature Film Competition of Malatya International Film Festival was also vibrant! The Best Film Award of International Feature Film Festival went to In Bloom. Also the films, Omar and Lunch Box won the Special Jury Mention Award.

Best Film Award of the National Short Film Competition went to Life Center (Yasam Merkezi), directed by Omer Gunuvar, and U.O.E. (U.N.K.), directed by Umut Subasi, won the Special Jury Award.

Enlivened with the songs of Birsen Tezer, the Award Ceremony ended with the family photo shooting.
